Training and Testing Regulation

Training and Development
As of April 15, 2010, the new basic Training and Testing Regulation took effect. This Regulation helps to enhance the professional requirements for security guards and private investigators and improve public safety.

For security professionals who wish to obtain a ministry require license must meet the basic criteria consisting of 40 hours of in class training. The curriculum includes:

  • Introduction to the Security Industry
  • The Private Security and Investigative Services Act
  • Basic Security Procedures
  • Report Writing
  • Health and Safety
  • Emergency Response Preparation
  • Canadian Legal System
  • Legal Authorities
  • Effective Communications
  • Sensitivity Training
  • Use of Force Theory
  • Emergency Level First Aid Certification

    Individuals looking to work as security guards and/or private investigators must first pass the ministry test. Test hosting services are provided by Serco DES Inc.
