Licensing
On August 23, 2007, the Private Security and Investigative Services Act came into force. The new law requires all security officers to be licensed. Security guards, private investigators, bodyguards, bouncers or loss prevention personnel must apply for a license from the ministry.
To apply for a license you must:
-
1. Complete a ministry-approved security training course
2. Write the test through a government recognized testing centre
3. Submit the application for security license to the Ministry
If an existing licensee’s renewal date falls on or after July 16, 2010, the guard must pass the ministry test before submitting their renewal application. Existing licensees are not required to take the basic training course.
